![]() The main body of the book consists of the biographies of 5 women, whom Ms. Whom to marry, and when will it happen-these two questions define every woman ’s existence… Bolick starts her book by questioning the role of marriage in a woman’s life: Ironically, upon finishing the book, I do not think “Spinster” has either of two things: it has neither shown a clear vision about what life should be like for a woman who defies patriarchal norms, nor how a woman can achieve that life. What’s surprising about “Spinster” is how…the book sets forth a clear vision not just for single women, but for all women: to disregard the reigning views of how women should live… In the closing paragraph of the NYT book review, “Spinster” was once more praised: How does a woman move through the world alone?
